Where in the World is K. B. Thorne?
Introduction & Welcome
It seems that the “as-needed” format doesn’t really work for my brain, especially as busy as I have been these days. There’s just so much going on, and I tend to work better with schedules…so I’m going to try moving to a monthly format unless there is specific news. I’ll send on the 3rd of the month because 3 is my favorite number.
The Creative Process
Well, unfortunately, I’ve stalled on Bones & Blood, though it has nothing to do with the story or even my love for those characters.
I just get a weird writers’ block issue, especially when there’s only a self-imposed deadline. Getting myself to stop worrying about everything else I need to do and just open the bloody story to start writing seems insurmountable. Almost always, once I do, I can get a lot done…but you know what they say. The first step is always the hardest.
When I have a deadline from someone else, it gets easier. For example, I entered two flash fiction contests and managed to get those stories written. Okay, they were done the night before, but I got them done! Sadly, my own projects and deadlines I choose just don’t work the same. I’m working on that, though, and really do hope to have Bones & Blood done by summer.
The Selling Process
On the side of the backend work, however, I’ve been busy. While I’m not removing myself from any big vendors, I have been spending time toward getting onto Shopify and try for direct sales. I also hope to get my book/s on Bookshop.org to sell and support indie bookstores at the same time.
You can also now find Bad Blood at many more retailers.
Writers Helping Writers
I am on the board of an up-and-coming non-profit organization called Disenfranchised Writers’ Voices, which aims to help low- and limited-income writers and disabled writers overcome financial barriers to getting published. We already have our first two events happening now!
Short Story Contest - The deadline is May 17th!
Writers Summit - Happening July 19th!
We are also on Discord.
That’s All For Now!
Hopefully by the time the next newsletter comes around, I’ll have some happier updates about Bones & Blood.
In the meantime, enjoy a gratuitous dog photo.
